7.4 My dog’s coat smells bad

There are several reasons that can explain why your dog’s coat smells bad.

It is time you give it a bath.

If it has been several months since you last washed your dog, the time has come! Here is how to find an adapted shampoo. If the smell is bothering you and you have not yet had the chance to wash it, you can use an odour destroyer.

It has rolled itself in smelly materials

Some dogs love rolling around in other dog and cow dung, or in dirty water. You will unfortunately not rid it of the smell until you have given it a shampoo. Here is how to find an adapted shampoo. If the smell is bothering you and you have not yet had the chance to wash it, you can use an odour destroyer.

It has a greasy skin or hair

Your dog may be suffering from seborrhoea: the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum(?). This state can be accompanied by the presence of dandruffs(?). You are in that case advised to use a sebum(?) regulating shampoo or spray (Zincoseb Shampoo and Zincoseb Spray). However, you are advised to consult a veterinarian if your dog’s state does not improve rapidly. Indeed, this smell can also be the consequence of a skin disease or even of a generalized disease. Managing these diseases can be a complicated and tedious process. As you try to establish a diagnostic and most of all find the adapted treatment, you can use an odour destroyer to manage the bad smell in the room where your dog is.

Il a une plaie ou un abcès

Some wounds can be well hidden! This is typically the case of abscesses. If the wound is superinfected or the abscess pierced, the resulting smell can be a disturbance. In that case, it is recommended that you see your veterinarian. He or she will take care of the wound but, more importantly, will prescribe an adapted antibiotic treatment if necessary. If the smell persists strongly during healing time, you can use an odour destroyer to manage the bad smell in the room where your dog is.
