Digestive disorders

4.3 How should I manage constipation and avoid it returning?

Firstly, it is important to monitor your dog's stool on a daily basis. If your companion suffers from constipation(?), ensure that it is sufficiently active and that it drinks enough water. Provide it with a diet that is sufficiently rich in fibres, or directly add some to its food bowl. Psyllium is particularly recommended. There exist several types of laxatives(?) on the market. Be careful, they are not necessarily devoid of risks in long term use! Indeed, some can irritate the digestive tract and induce diarrhoeas, or prevent the absorption(?) of certain vitamins(?) and nutrients. Fibres such as psyllium have no side effects and can be used on a daily basis, over extended periods.
