18.2.1 How does osteoarthritis evolve over time?

Once osteoarthritis has settled in, there is no way to cure it. It is thus an irreversible affliction. Osteoarthritis is also referred to as a progressive disease: even if it is possible to slow the deterioration of cartilage(?), the older your cat gets, the more the disease develops. This disease evolves through crises: there will be phases in which your cat will feel more pain.

Be careful, as osteoarthritis is a vicious circle! It is important to maintain daily physical activity. Stimulate your cat for at least 15 to 20 minutes with a toy it likes. This is important to guarantee the preservation of a good muscle mass that suports and stabilizes the joint(?), which in turn limits inflammations and thus pain. Furthermore, movement lubrifies the joints(?)' surface and fights ankylosis(?).

As you will have understood, it is important to act as soon as possible to prevent the settling in of arthritis
