Digestive disorders

Questions

Digestive disorders

3.1 What are the causes of constipation?

There are multiple causes of constipation(?). In cats that are older of affected by certain illnesses, intestinal transit is slowed. Physical activity, along with water intake also affect transit. Constipation can arise as a result of having ingested pieces of bone. A diet that is balanced and sufficiently rich in certain types of fibers(?) is indispensable for evacuation of stool. Hairballs can induce vomitting, as well as slow transit. There also exist causes that are external to the digestive tract, such as for example female gestation. Excess weight and kidney diseases(?) can also lead to constipation(?). Finally, in some cases, it's the litter that's at issue! It possible that it (substrate, placement, cleanliness, or the fact of having to share with another animal) does not suit your cat. In this case, it is important to make sure that your cat is urinating normally!
